For several years we have used one of the leaders in rackmount server vendors, Supermicro for all of our machines. After much research and testing we have moved away from this specification and chosen state of the art Dell Energy Star Certified rackmount systems for our ongoing hardware requirements.
The PowerEdge servers utilized are designed with 125% more memory capacity and more integrated I/O than the previous systems. This increased capacity is crucial for virtualization performance and scalability. New DDR3 memory offers higher bandwidth and lower power consumption than previous FBD or DDR2 technologies.
The technical specifications of our servers consist of the following:
- Dell PowerEdge servers (Intel® 5500 Series based 2U Rackmount servers)
- perfect combination of computing power, redundancy, and scalability
- up to two Quad-Core Intel Xeon 550 Processor Series
- up to 144GB (18 DIMM slots): 1/2/4/8GB DDR3, 800Mhz, 1066MHz or 1333MHz
- dual embedded NIC's with failover and load balancing support
- hot-plug redudant cooling
- hot-plug power supplies
- hot-plug hard drives
The minimum technical specifications of our servers consist of the following hardware components. Dedicated server configurations will vary dependent on the needs of the specific customer.
- Quad-Core Intel E5520 Xeon Processor, 2.26GHz
- 8GB ECC Memory
- PERC 6/i SAS RAID Controller
- 2x 500GB SAS Hard Drive
- 1x 1TB SAS Hard Drive
