Unfortunately it's a fact of hosting life that hard drives can fail or develop irrepairable faults. In the olden days of this industry this meant hours or days of total downtime while the system was restored with many hosting providers still leaving things to chance in this way currently.

All of our servers utilise RAID technology which is a method of running multiple independant hard drives together (in an "array") so if one fails, others will take over seamlessly without a second of downtime. The PERC 6/i SAS RAID controllers that we use in all servers have proved their worth many times and reduced downtime through hard drive failure to an absolute minimum.

Although equipment like this adds extra cost when servers are purchased, we believe strongly that it is money well spent in ensuring uptime for our clients is at a maximum.
